    Why I Love Movies

I love movies more than most people. I love arguing about them, I love quoting them, and I love watching them. There has to be a reason behind this torrid love affair, and I think I have found it: movies tell the stories I want to tell.

I have always loved telling stories. Ask any of my friends, and they will tell you that I might have a story that relates to any given life situation. Movies are a way for me to see how someone else tells a good story for a change.

My love for quality narrative limits the kinds of movies that I like. Not every movie tells a good story, just like some of my stories tend to trail off into nothingness like some kind of worm hole to a dimension of boredom. I wish this wasn’t the case. I wish I told only good stories just like I wish every movie had a plot that held together.

Movies are better than my stories, too. They are able to put flesh and blood and colors and scenery to the narrative. A good director is a painter of moving canvas and tells stories based on his aesthetic prowess.

I’ve watched more movies this past semester than at any point in my life. My roommates are movie-freaks just like me, so the movie channels are always on our TV. We also own around a million DVDs between us and watch them on a regular basis.

Certain movies are able to keep me tangled up in them for their duration, no matter how long they are. Those movies make life more interesting and keep me watching. Those movies inspire me to tell better stories.

p.s. Wes, try keeping your comment under 1000 words on this one, OK?
